Nobody wants to deal with an unexpected car repair. However, at some point, there's a good chance your car is going to need an extensive repair or a part replaced. When this time comes, having a reliable and trustworthy auto mechanic to turn to can make all the difference. While you're shopping for an auto repair shop you can trust, there are a few specifics to watch out for.

Parts and Labor Warranty Included

Most auto repair shops will include a warranty on any parts they install or replace on your vehicle. Typically, this warranty actually comes from the manufacturer. However, the sign of a mechanic who truly stands behind his or her work is a labor warranty that is also included. This means that they will stand behind not only the part, but their role in installing it.

Proven ASE-Certification

Any reputable mechanic or auto repair shop should have no trouble showing you their up-to-date Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification. Specifically, this certification lasts five years; after that point, mechanics are required to continue their education in order to obtain certification for the next five years. It's also good if you can find an auto repair shop that is certified by AAA as an added bonus.

Gives You Options to Choose From

In most cases, there is more than one solution to a car-related problem. A reputable mechanic who truly cares about his or her customers will offer them options for their repair. Typically, a mechanic will provide you with a cheap, short-term repair and a more expensive long-term solution. A less honest mechanic may only tell you about the more expensive repair, so don't hesitate to ask for other options--especially if you're on a tight budget with your auto repair.

Offers a Free Loaner Vehicle

Not all auto repair shops will do this, but it certainly is a nice perk. If your car is going to be in the shop for more than a few hours, a reputable mechanic may offer you a loaner vehicle from their fleet at no additional charge. This is great for those who don't have a back-up vehicle available to them while their car is in the shop and need a vehicle to get around to work, run errands, or take care of other obligations.

These are just a few things to look for when shopping for a reputable and trustworthy auto repair shop.
