There's nothing better than upgrading to a high-performance engine, especially when you want to separate your car from the standard family sedans you see on the road. After all, a high-performance engine can take your car to the next level. Once you've invested in a high-performance engine, you want to take steps to protect your investment. With proper care, your new engine will give you the power and performance you want for your car. Here are some simple steps you can follow to protect your high-performance engine.

Start With the Gasoline

If you've invested in a new engine, such as a 6.6 Duramax performance engine, the last thing you want to do is sell yourself short on the type of gasoline you choose. You might not realize this, but the wrong gasoline can spell disaster for high-performance engines. With the high price of gasoline right now, you might find yourself reaching for the regular unleaded nozzle, but that's the last thing you want to do. To ensure maximum protection, you want to run premium gasoline through your new engine.

Prevent Moisture Damage

If you live in a region that sees a lot of seasonal rain, or significant snowfall during the winter, you need to take steps to protect your engine against moisture damage. You might not know this, but prolonged exposure to moisture can increase the risk of corrosion and can undermine performance. Because of those risks, it's important that you keep your new engine as dry as possible. One way to do that is to air dry your engine after exposure to rain, deep puddles, or heavy snow. If you don't have a way to air dry your engine, you can also use a soft cloth to dry the surface area.

Protect the Connector Rods

If you want to extend the life of your new high-performance engine, be sure to protect the connector rods. One way to do that is to avoid revving your engines when you're at a stop. Revving your engine might get your car noticed, but it can also damage the connector rods. To reduce the risk of damage, avoid revving your engine when you're at a stop.

Choose the Right Mechanic

Finally, if you've invested in a high-performance engine, you need to invest in the right mechanic, as well. To keep your car running at its best, you need a mechanic who has experience with high-performance engines.
